About Dr. Baillie

Dr. Baillie has a passion to encourage family and others to read, study and apply God’s Word. ‘Papa’ and his Grandson Sam (a college freshman when he read the Psalms in this manner) have collaborated to write this study of Psalms using an every 30th Psalm reading plan. Several of Dr Baillie’s grandchildren are currently reading through the Bible, sending daily texts and questions, as they interact with ‘Papa’. The pictures on the back cover are from a recent family journey to the Holy Lands prompting thoughts of aspects of your own walk. Whether you are in the desert place, praying earnestly as in the Garden of Gethsemane, or climbing a mountain like Mt Sinai, may you praise and sing with the Lord as you walk with Him on your journey through the Psalms.

As you consider this study, Psalm 1 reminds you must go way beyond just learning to gain knowledge by study of God’s Word. You must also continually meditate or ruminate on His Word as you seek meaning and application to life. The fruit will come seasonally and is through repeated conversations with the Lord in prayer. The end result is a God defined and directed life which is happy, joyful and prosperous according to His plan, not yours. As you sing praises to Him on your journey through the Psalms, you will more and more see why it is part of God’s wisdom literature, giving you counsel in all of life and godliness.

About Sam

Samuel Woodward grew up in Brentwood Tennessee. After finishing high school at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, he enrolled at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Sam grew up in a Christian home and went to a Christian school, but his exposure to the Bible and its truths was like most of ours–mostly in a wide variety of individual “feedings.” Sam had the privilege to journey to Israel, Jordan, and Egypt on a Holy Lands’ tour providing him visual and physical information to help him reflect upon the Scriptures.

During his freshman year, Sam decided to read through the Bible. He joined Dr. Baillie’s challenge to send a text of three insights seen in each day’s reading to ‘Papa’. When the time arrived to read the Psalms, he decided upon this “every 30th“ plan. His portion of the notes are texts of his daily observations and application comments.
